Man arrested for firearm and drug charges following traffic stop – South Coast

A man has been charged over firearm and drug offences following a traffic stop on the South Coast.

About 2am on Saturday (9 March 2024), officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Far South sector were conducting proactive patrols of the Princes Highway, when they stopped a vehicle travelling north of the Princes Highway at Tomerong.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized a shortened firearm from under the driver’s seat, two knives, a tomahawk, methylamphetamine, cocaine and cash.

A 26-year-old man was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station, where he was charged with possess shortened firearm without authority, possess ammunition without holding licence, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs, possess prohibited drug, drive motor vehicle during disqualification, possess loaded firearm in public place, and carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.

He was refused bail to appear before Nowra Local Court on Tuesday 26 March 2024.
