A man has been arrested on a boat in Sydney’s south today after allegedly threatening police with a screwdriver in Sydney’s Lower North Shore yesterday.
Just prior to 4pm (Thursday 26 September 2019), police approached a man on Longueville Road, Lane Cove, and spoke with him regarding an ongoing investigation.
During the conversation, police will allege he produced a screwdriver and threatened officers before fleeing the scene.
Officers from North Shore Police Area Command, with the assistance of PolAir and the Dog Unit, commenced inquiries to locate the man.
Following inquiries, officers from Central Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad approached a man on the beach at Sandringham in Sydney’s south, about 1.45pm today (Friday 27 September 2019).
When approached, police will allege the man fled the scene, swimming out and boarding an unmanned boat that was moored a short distance offshore.
Officers approached the boat via jet ski and were allegedly threatened by the man, before OC spray was deployed.
The 48-year-old man was arrested a short time later and taken to Kogarah Police Station where he is expected to be charged with several offences.
