Man arrested on drugs and firearm charges at Gilgandra, NSW

A man faces court today following the alleged discovery of drugs and firearms during a vehicle search in the state’s west.

About 2am (Thursday 15 August 2019), officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District stopped a black Nissan Navara travelling east on the Oxley Highway, between Collie and Gilgandra.

After conducting checks of the driver, it was revealed the man was currently disqualified from driving.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police allegedly discovered a stolen rifle and a homemade pistol. They also allegedly located an amount of cannabis, methylamphetamine and brown powder believed to be heroin.

The 36-year-old man was placed under arrest and taken to Gilgandra Police Station.

He was charged with drive disqualified 2nd+ offence, possession of a stolen firearm, possess unregistered unauthorised prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence, possess prohibited drug and supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity.

A further charge is pending the formal identification of the brown powder.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Thursday 15 August 2019).
