Man arrested over fires at Christie Downs, South Australia

A man was arrested after three small grass fires were lit at Christie Downs overnight.

Police and fire crews were called to Peregrine Crescent, Christie Downs just before 2am on Thursday 6 December by reports of someone lighting a fire in the car park of the train station.

Police found three burnt piles of leaves in the car park. Patrols searched the area and located a suspect at the train station.

The 19-year-old man from Adelaide was arrested and charged with arson. He was bailed with strict conditions to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 21 January.

With hot weather today, police are reminding members of the public of the dangers of bushfires and ask them to be vigilant. Total Fire Bans have been declared for the Mount Lofty Ranges and other regional areas.

Police patrols, as a part of Operation Nomad, will target bushfire prone areas throughout the State.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity in fire danger areas is asked to call the police attendance line on 131 444.
