Man caught drink driving and speeding in Melton

Police have caught a drink driver speeding in Melton this morning.

Officer clocked a black Ford Ranger travelling at 105km/h in a 60km/h zone on Centenary Avenue about 1.40am.

The intercepted the car and spoke to the 32-year-old driver.

He returned a positive preliminary breath test before he furnished an evidentiary breath test of 0.189%.

The Brookfield man’s vehicle was immediately impounded at a cost of $1006.10.

He is expected to be charged on summons with various traffic related offences at a later date.

This impound forms part of Operation Arid, a four-day focus on keeping our community safe on the roads during the Labour Day long weekend.

The state-wide operation aims to reduce road trauma, including the number of lives lost and injuries on our roads.

During this time motorists can expect to be breath tested and drug tested, have their vehicles scanned and be checked for speeding.

The operation involves all available personnel including local road policing units, general duties, other operational policing units and centralised resources from Road Policing Command.

Operation Arid runs from 12.01am on Friday 6 March to 11.59pm on Monday 9 March 2020.
