Man charged after alleged murder, NSW

A man has been charged with murder after another man was allegedly fatally stabbed in Sydney’s east last weekend.

Just after 8pm on Saturday 22 December 2018, emergency services were called to Oxford Street, near Vermon Street, Bondi Junction, following reports a man had been stabbed several times.

Police will allege two men – aged 30 and 60 – were involved in an altercation outside a fast food outlet before they both suffered stab wounds.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command performed CPR on the older man, assisted by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, he died at the scene.

The younger man was also injured and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital under police guard for treatment of a stab wound to his abdomen.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, established Strike Force Ellerman to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, about 11.30am today (Thursday 27 December 2018), detectives attended the hospital and charged the 30-year-old Maroubra man with murder.

He was refused bail and is due to appear via bedside hearing at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Friday 28 December 2018).

Police do not believe the men were known to each other.

Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Ellerman detectives is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
