A man has been charged after he allegedly followed a young girl in Sydney’s Inner West.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command commenced an investigation after receiving reports a man had allegedly followed a young girl in Redfern and Lewisham yesterday (Tuesday 22 September 2026).
Police were told about 7.45am, a 12-year-old girl was walking along Elizabeth Street, Redfern, when an unknown man allegedly approached her and spoke to her.
The young girl continued to walk away from the man who then allegedly began to follow her along Turner, Regent and Redfern streets.
While following the 12-year-old, the man allegedly made several inappropriate comments towards her before then allegedly following her into Newtown Railway Station and boarding the same train as the young girl.
The girl, in an attempt to avoid the man, exited the train at Redfern Railway Station and boarded a different train; however, the man allegedly continued to follow her.
Police were told the girl travelled on the train to Lewisham Railway Station – with the man still on board – where staff from a nearby school were able to assist her.
The man left Lewisham Railway Station prior to the arrival of police.
Inner West detectives commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following inquiries, about 4.30am today (Wednesday 23 September 2026), officers arrested a 44-year-old man on King Street, Newtown.
The man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (personal) and breach of bail.
The man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 6 today (Wednesday 23 September 2026), before he was formally refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court on Tuesday 29 September 2026.
