A man will face court charged with allegedly assaulting a staff worker and a member of the public in the state’s south yesterday.
Just before 1pm (Wednesday 2 September 2026), officers attached to Murray River Police District were called to Dean Street, Albury, following reports of an assault.
Police attended and were told at about 12pm that day, an unknown man had allegedly assaulted a 43-year-old female worker inside a library on Kiewa Street, Albury.
The man allegedly threatened the 43-year-old before striking the woman with a bottle and leaving the scene.
The 43-year-old received minor injuries and did not require further treatment.
A short time later, the man allegedly assaulted a 42-year-old man outside a shopping complex on Kiewa Street, Albury, before leaving the scene.
The 42-year-old received serious injuries to his leg and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before he was taken to Albury Base Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Following the alleged assaults, police were further told the man allegedly harassed two additional members of the public nearby.
Following inquiries, a 43-year-old man was arrested a short time later on Dean Street, Albury.
The 43-year-old was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with common assault and reckless grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 5 today (Thursday 3 September 2026).
