A man has been charged after a commercial quantity of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $850,000, was allegedly seized during a vehicle stop near Yass.
About 2.45am today (Friday 4 September 2026), officers attached to Yass Highway Patrol were conducting high visibility patrols on the Hume Highway, Bowning, when they stopped a Kia Carnival.
Officers subjected the driver – a 48-year-old man from Victoria – to a roadside breath test, returning a negative result.
Officers searched the vehicle and allegedly located and seized several large plastic shopping bags containing 155 individual bags of cannabis with a combined weight of more than 85 kilograms – with an estimated street value of $850,000.
Two mobile phones were also seized for forensic examination.
The driver was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station.
He was charged with supply prohibited drug greater than commercial quantity.
He was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Court 3 today (Friday 4 September 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court tomorrow (Saturday 5 September 2026).
