Man charged after IEDs, firearms, ammunition and drugs seized – Wagga Wagga

Police have charged a man over the alleged manufacture of explosive devices, as well as firearms, weapons and drug offences, following an investigation in the Riverina.

About 8am on Thursday 20 August 2026, police attached to the Southern Region Enforcement Squad stopped and searched a 30-year-old man in Wagga Wagga, allegedly locating and seizing a small quantity of cocaine and MDMA.

The 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at a home in Wagga Wagga, where police allegedly located two improvised explosive devices (IED).

Officers attached to Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit responded, and after processing the devices, declared the location safe. Officers continued the search and allegedly located ammunition, a slam gun (privately made firearm), BB pellets, cannabis seeds and two vials of testosterone.

The 30-year-old man was charged with 16 offences;

  • Manufacture military-style weapon without a permit (two counts)
  • Possess prohibited drug (four counts)
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority (eight counts)
  • Possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm
  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic)

He was bail refused to appear before Bail Court Division 5 on Friday (21 August 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 21 October 2026).
