Man charged after investigation into aggravated break and enter – Strathfield

A man will appear in court today charged following an investigation into an aggravated break and enter in Strathfield.

Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command attended a home in Fairholm Street, Strathfield, after reports a man allegedly forced his way inside, before stealing cash and other items from an elderly woman about 11.10am yesterday (Saturday 30 September 2023).

Police have been told the man knocked on the front door of the home of an 81-year-old woman. When the woman answered the door, the man allegedly pushed the woman aside before stealing cash, a key card and chocolates. The man then fled the scene.

Following inquiries, police found the man at a hotel on Liverpool Road, Strathfield South, where the 46-year-old was arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station.

He was charged with;

– Aggravated enter dwelling with intent – knowing people there,

– Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception,

– Two counts of obtain/attempt to, benefit in casino by dishonest means,

– Fail to pay correct fare on demand – adult,

– Hirer fail to pay any unpaid amount of the fare,

– Two counts of fail to comply with reporting obligations, and

– Breach of bail.

The man was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Sunday 1 October 2023).
