Man charged after loaded firearm and drugs located in Clayton

Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after a commercial quantity of drugs and a loaded firearm were located in Clayton this morning.

Police were initially called to conduct a welfare check at the intersection of Wellington Road and Henderson Road about 5.30am.

Officers attended the scene and boxed in the BMW sedan as a precaution.

Upon closer inspection, officers located a 29-year-old man asleep inside the rented vehicle, which was idling at the traffic lights.

The man was woken up before a search of the car allegedly revealed a commercial quantity of MDMA, as well as a loaded handgun.

The man from Vermont was taken to hospital as a precaution, before being interviewed by detectives. He has since been charged with:

  • Traffick commercial quantity of ecstasy
  • Prohibited person possess firearm
  • Person subject to Firearm Prohibition Order possess firearm
  • Possess general category unregistered handgun
  • Possess cartridge ammunition without licence
  • Possess drug of dependence.

He is expected to face a bail and remand court later today.
