Man Charged, After String Of Suspicious Fires At Albury

A man has been charged, following a string of suspicious fires in the State’s Riverina.

In January 2024, Strike Force Zalgris was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding several suspicious fires in the Albury region.

Following investigations, about 3.30pm yesterday (Monday 26 February 2024), detectives attached to Murray River Police District stopped a white Toyota Corolla on Table Top Road, Thurgoona, and arrested the driver at the scene.

The 29-year-old man was conveyed to Albury Police Station, where he was charged with four counts of intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and custody of knife in public place.

He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Tuesday 27 February 2024).

Police will allege the man was involved in four suspicious fires in Table Top and Thurgoona since January 2024.
