A man has faced court charged over alleged armed robberies in the state’s north.
About 12.15am on Tuesday 1 August 2023, a Mitsubishi Triton utility – reportedly stolen from Gunnedah Railway Station in July – pulled up at a service station on the Newell Highway, Narrabri.
The two male occupants entered the store and allegedly threatened the attendant with a firearm, before fleeing with cash.
About 2am, the same vehicle pulled up at a home on Railway Street, Curlewis, where two men allegedly forced entry and threated the occupants – a 54-year-old man, a 41-year-old woman – with a firearm before assaulting them.
The pair stole a mobile phone and a Nissan SUV, driving off in the two vehicles.
The couple were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene for minor injuries. Four children also home at the time were not physically injured.
A short time later, the Mitsubishi Triton utility was located abandoned and burnt out on Lincoln Street, Gunnedah.
Police established crime scenes and detectives commenced an investigation.
The Nissan was allegedly later involved in two fail to pays at Attunga and Gunnedah service stations.
A 23-year-old man was arrested following a pursuit the same day and charged. He remains before the courts.
Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 29-year-old man at a Gunnedah home about 10.30am yesterday (Wednesday 6 September 2023).
He was taken to Gunnedah Police station and charged with two counts of steal motor vehicle, two counts of robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, four counts of use etc offensive weapon in company with intention of indictable offence, special aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence – weapon, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s), damage property by fire/explosion.
Two outstanding warrants were also executed.
The man appeared at Gunnedah Local Court yesterday where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Tuesday 7 November 2023.
