A man has been charged following incidents in Richmond and St Albans where two men were seriously injured after they were slashed and stabbed in recent weeks.
The 31-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences including intentionally cause serious injury, intentionally cause serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, possessing a controlled weapon and more than 20 theft and deception offences for other outstanding matters.
The arrest, at a fast-food restaurant in Sunshine Avenue, Kealba about 1.45pm yesterday, formed part of a Yarra and Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit joint investigation following the alleged incidents in Richmond on Saturday 22 August and St Albans on Thursday 3 September.
In the first incident a man was allegedly slashed to the face during a pre-arranged collectable cards transaction in a carpark near Elizabeth and Lennox streets in Richmond in the early hours of the morning.
The 29-year-old victim sustained a significant injury to his face.
A second man was seriously injured while out on his morning walk near Ginifer Railway Station in St Albans when he was allegedly approached from behind and stabbed about 3.20am.
The 68-year-old victim required treatment in hospital for his injuries.
The St Albans man has been remanded in custody to appear before Sunshine Magistrates’ Court today.
