Man charged following spate of home invasions in Melbourne’s east

Detectives Southern Metro Region Crime Squad have charged a man following a series of home invasions in Melbourne’s east last month.

Police will allege the man gained access to three properties during the afternoon of Tuesday 11 August in Alpha Street, Balwyn North, St Helens Road in Hawthorn and Currajong Avenue in Camberwell between 1.45 and 3.30pm.

The homes were occupied at the time however during one of the incidents the offenders fled when confronted by the occupants.

The man allegedly stole a number of items from the properties including two vehicles, clothing and jewellery.

Investigators executed a search warrant on 4 September at a Mornington address, where a 19-year-old man was arrested.

Officers located and seized illicit drugs and evidence in connection with the burglaries.

The Mornington man has since been charged with three counts of home invasion, the theft of two motor vehicles, and trafficking and possessing a drug of dependence.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday 7 September.
