Man charged, officers spat on at Wagga Wagga, NSW

A man has been charged after two officers were allegedly spat on in the Riverina region last night.

About 10:20pm (Friday 18 December 2020), police were called to Balmoral Crescent, Lake Albert, following reports of a group of males fighting.

Police will allege an 18-year-old Mount Austin man was struck with a glass bottle, before being stabbed in the arm. He sustained minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.

A glass window of a home on Balmoral Crescent was also smashed during the incident.

Officers from Riverina Police District attended and arrested a 20-year-old Lake Albert man.

During the arrest, it will be alleged the man spat in the face of a male constable and on the leg of a male senior constable.

The Lake Albert man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station charged with destroy or damage property, reckless wounding, assault officer in execution of duty (x2), resist officer in execution of duty, and offensive behaviour.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 27 January 2021.

The men are not known to each other.
