A man has been charged over ten alleged historic break and enter offences in the Illawarra.
Between Friday 24 December 2001 and Monday 3 May 2024, a number of businesses within Wollongong’s CBD were allegedly broken into, and had cash and property stolen.
Following separate investigations, officers attached to Wollongong Police District obtained DNA, which allegedly linked a man to the historic break and enter offences.
Following further inquiries, about 10.40am today (Wednesday 12 August 2026), officers attended a home in Gwynneville, where a 65-year-old man was arrested.
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with seven counts of break and enter building (steal) value <=$15000 and three counts of break and enter within intent to (steal).
He was granted conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
Police will allege in court, businesses in Kembla, Victoria, Keira and Crown streets, Wollongong, were broken into, and cash and electronic devices, including a laptop, mobile phone and video player, were stolen.
