Man charged, second man under police guard after stabbing in North Parramatta

A man has been charged and another remains under police guard in hospital following an alleged brawl at a sporting ground – during which three people were stabbed – in Sydney’s west yesterday.

Just after 11.20am (Sunday 9 August 2020), officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended Old Saleyards Reserve on Gladstone Street, North Parramatta, after three males – a 19-year-old player and two spectators, aged 16 and 22 – were injured during a physical altercation between a group of people at the conclusion of a rugby league match.

The injured males remain in Westmead Hospital undergoing treatment for various injuries.

Police were told several men fled the scene in a Toyota Aurion and a search was conducted with assistance from PolAir.

As a result of inquiries, officers from Nepean Police Area Command and the Public Order and Riot Squad attended a home on Victoria Street, Cambridge Park, just before 2pm.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Nepean Hospital, where he remains under police guard, for treatment to a hand laceration.

Following further inquiries, police arrested a 20-year-old man at Penrith Police Station just before 8pm.

He was charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other.

The Kingswood man was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today (Monday 10 August 2020).
