Man charged with driving offences on Christmas Day, NSW

A man will face court tomorrow after being charged with driving offences following an incident in Surry Hills this morning.

About 5.50am (Tuesday 25 December 2018), a 41-year-old man was allegedly driving a Toyota Kluger west bound on Oxford Street, Surry Hills, above the 50km/h sign posted speed limit.

Police were told the vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road before being driven onto the footpath and crashing into a barrier on Flinders Street, near Taylors Square.

The driver allegedly attempted to flee the area on foot before being arrested by officers from Surry Hills and Kings Cross Police Area Commands.

The man allegedly returned a negative result to a roadside breath test, before being arrested and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was then taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with drive manner dangerous, not stop at stop line at red light, not keep left of dividing line, and not give particulars to owner of damaged property.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Wednesday 26 December 2018).

Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
