Man charged with drug and firearms offences – Raptor South

A man has been charged with drugs and firearms offences in Wollongong.

About 2.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 29 March 2023), officers from Raptor South executed a search warrant at a unit on Heaslip Avenue, Coniston, as part of an investigation into the alleged supply of prohibited drugs and firearms in the Illawarra region.

During a search of the unit, police seized quantities of heroin, Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and a white crystal substance believed to be methylamphetamine.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

During a subsequent search of a nearby garage, officers located a loaded shortened .410 shotgun and ammunition in the boot of a silver Subaru sedan.

The man was charged with six offences,

  • Possess prohibited drug,
  • Supply prohibited drug,
  • Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority,
  • Possess unregistered firearm – not pistol/prohibited firearm,
  • Not keep firearm safely – not pistol/prohibited firearm, and,
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 30 March 2023).
