Man charged, woman critically injured in domestic-related incident, NSW

A man has been charged after a woman was critically injured in a domestic-related incident in Sydney’s west last night.

About 10.30pm (Tuesday 25 December 2018), police were called to Messina Crescent, Bonnyrigg Heights, after reports a woman was injured.

Police will allege a 50-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were involved in a verbal altercation, before the woman was struck twice in the head with projectiles from a nail gun.

The man fled the scene on foot.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before she was taken to Liverpool Hospital to undergo emergency surgery. She remains in a critical condition.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 3.40am today (Wednesday 26 December 2018), a 20-year-old man was arrested in Northumberland Street, Bonnyrigg Heights, and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

He was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Thursday 27 December 2018).
