Man crashes car outside police station, flees at Lake Illawarra, NSW

A man has been charged after crashing his car outside a police station and attempting to flee.

About 6.50am Sunday (26 January 2020) a man was driving a Mazda sedan along Pioneer Drive, Oak Flats, when he crashed into a large roundabout outside Lake Illawarra Police Station.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District heard the crash and allegedly saw the man running away from the scene, towards Storey Street.

Police chased the man on foot and found him on the roof of a nearby industrial building.

The man came down from the building and was arrested, before being taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The 34-year-old man allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine and inquiries revealed he is currently disqualified from driving.

He was charged with driving whilst disqualified, negligent driving and trespassing.

The man will face Port Kembla Local Court on 5 February 2020.
