Man detained and assaulted; man arrested at Auburn, NSW

A man has been arrested as investigators appeal for public assistance after a man was allegedly detained and assaulted in Sydney’s west overnight.

About 6.30am this morning (Saturday 7 November 2020), police were called to Parramatta Road, Auburn, after a man had reportedly been detained and assaulted.

Police have been told the 36-year-old man was detained by three males while stopped in his black Mercedes in south-western Sydney about 1.30am.

He was driven to Auburn where the Mercedes was involved in a collision with a Toyota van at the intersection of Parramatta and Dartbrook Road.

The group stole the van and were also seen fleeing possibly in a second vehicle, described as a white Toyota Rav4.

Officers from Auburn Police Area Command attended and commenced inquiries.

The 36-year-old man was located and treated at the scene for facial injuries.

The Toyota van was recovered nearby in Simpson Street, and a 25-year-old man was arrested on Station Street. He has been taken to Auburn Police Station.

A number of crime scenes have been established at Auburn as inquiries continue.

As inquiries continue, investigators are appealing for anyone with information, or who may have CCTV or dash cam vision in the vicinity of Dartbrook Road and Paramatta Road, and Simpson Street and Station Road in Auburn, to contact Auburn Police Station or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
