Man dies after Southbank incident

Police are investigating the death of a man following an incident in Southbank last weekend.

Emergency services were called to the food court of an entertainment complex on Whiteman Street about 12.20am on Sunday, 27 March following reports of an assault.

A 29-year-old Mentone man was conveyed to hospital, however he subsequently passed away earlier today.

A 26-year-old Highton man has been charged with recklessly cause injury and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 31 August.

A 29-year-old Colac man who was also arrested on the night was released pending further enquiries.

The exact circumstances regarding the incident are still to be determined and police will also await the results of a post-mortem examination.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Homicide Squad.
