Man drowns – Manyana Beach, NSW

A man has died in a suspected drowning at Manyana Beach, in the Shoalhaven area, yesterday.

About 4.50pm (Thursday 3 October 2019), emergency services were called to the beach following reports a man appeared to be struggling in the water.

A passer-by pulled the 45-year-old man from the water and CPR was commenced.

Despite efforts to revive him the man, from Mount Colah, died at the scene

Officers attached to the South Coast Police District will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

Inspector Susan Charman-Horton from South Coast Police District said it’s a timely reminder with the warmer weather, and during the school holidays, for everyone entering the water to be mindful of conditions and to swim within their capabilities.

“As the weather heats up, more people will be visiting beaches, some of which aren’t patrolled. It is important to always take note of the swell and be aware of rips and beach conditions.

“We encourage everyone to enjoy the water and want everyone to return to the beach safely. Our thoughts are with this man’s family at this terrible time.” said Insp Charman-Horton.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
