Homicide Squad detectives have extradited a man from Queensland following an investigation into the discovery of a man’s body on the Mid North Coast.
In March 2023, officers attached to the Regional Enforcement Squad South established Strike Force Almug to investigate the alleged supply of drugs in the Caringbah area.
As inquiries continued, officers engaged State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad after becoming aware of a missing person.
The Homicide Squad established Strike Force Etruscan to investigate further.
On Friday 12 May 2023, strike force detectives conducted a search of Warrell Creek in Macksville on the Mid North Coast, where they recovered the body of a 22-year-old man in a large metal cabinet.
Following further extensive inquiries, a 22-year-old man was arrested in May and charged with murder. He remains before the court.
On Wednesday 17 May 2023, homicide detectives travelled to Brisbane and – with assistance from Queensland Police Service (QPS) – executed a number of search warrants across the greater Brisbane area.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Homicide detectives travelled to Queensland where they applied for and were granted the man’s extradition which was subsequently granted in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday (Friday 1 September 2023).
He was escorted by detectives to Tweed Heads Police Station where the warrant was executed for the offences of accessory after the fact to murder, steal motor vehicle and improperly interfere with corpse.
The man was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court today (Saturday 2 September 2023).
