Man faces court for sexual touching of child at Wollongong, NSW

A man will re-appear in court today facing charges related to the sexual touching of a girl in the Illawarra region.

In June, police received reports that a seven-year-old girl had been sexually touched by a man known to her at a home at Farmborough Heights.

The matter was referred to detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad who commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives attended a correctional facility in Silverwater and arrested a 31-year-old man about 10.30am on Thursday 16 July 2020.

He was charged with intentionally sexually touch child under 10 years.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually touched the girl while at the home.

He was refused bail and appeared at Wollongong Local Court, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court today (Thursday 30 July 2020).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
