Man faces court over crime spree across Orange, Dubbo areas, NSW

A man will face court today on 31 charges following a four-day crime spree across the Central West and Orana regions.

Shortly after 1.30pm on Monday (11 November 2019), officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District were patrolling the Dubbo township when they saw a Ford Falcon sedan reported stolen from Orange between Friday 8 November and Saturday 9 November 2019.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Baird Street, when it is alleged the driver accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

Shortly after 5pm, the stolen car was seen travelling south on the Newell Highway at Brocklehurst. A second pursuit was initiated before again being terminated on Brisbane Street due to safety concerns.

About 6.35am on Tuesday (12 November 2019), police located the stolen car parked on the roadside near Geurie.

As police removed the driver from the vehicle it is alleged a number of knives and other sharp objects fell onto the roadway.

The 22-year-old Dubbo man was arrested however he resisted police and allegedly bit an officer’s hand.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station in a caged police vehicle and was removed in transit after allegedly attempting to damage the inside of the cage.

The man was charged with 31 offences including:

  • Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner (x2)
  • Enter building/ land with intent commit indictable offence (x5)
  • Enter enclosed land without lawful excuse
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (x2)
  • Police pursuit (x2)
  • Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
  • Drive recklessly (x2)
  • Larceny (x5)
  • Not comply with direction given by police officer
  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception (x3)
  • Resist officer in execution of duty
  • Assault officer in execution of duty
  • Destroy or damage property
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Break, enter and steal (less than $60,000) (x2)
  • Aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence

He was bail refused to appear before Dubbo Local Court today (Friday 15 November 2019).
