Man in a critical condition after being hit by vehicle, NSW

A man is in a critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Sydney’s south west yesterday.

About 4:35pm (Tuesday 28 May 2019), a 61-year-old woman was driving a van in a north westerly direction along the Hume Highway, Bass Hill.

At the intersection at Miller Road, the van allegedly struck a pedestrian crossing the street.

An 18-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command and South-West Metropolitan Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attended and established a crime scene.

An examination of the scene was conducted by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit with the assistance of the Forensic Imaging Section.

The driver of the van was taken for mandatory testing before being taken to Bankstown Police Station.

The woman was arrested and charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and fail to stop at red light.

Her licence was suspended.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 19 June 2019.
