Man in court after two pursuits through state’s North-West, NSW

A man is due to appear in Tamworth court today charged after two police pursuits in the state’s west overnight.

Officers attached to Oxley Highway Patrol were patrolling the Newell Highway at Bellata, 50km south of Moree, about 7pm (Saturday 7 November 2020), when they saw a car known to be owned by an unlicensed driver.

Police will allege when they turned to follow the vehicle it accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated, reaching speeds of up to 160km/h in the signposted 60km/h zone through Bellata.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

About 7.20pm, the vehicle was seen at Moree by officers attached to New England Highway Patrol and a pursuit was again commenced before the vehicle stopped in Blueberry Road.

The driver, a 46-year-old man was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with seven offences’

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously (two counts)

• Exceed speed by more than 45km/h (two counts)

• Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended (two counts), and

• Possess prohibited drug.

The Moree man has been refused bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court today (Sunday 8 November 2020).
