A man has been injured in an apparent hit-and-run incident in the state’s south.
Shortly before 12.30pm today (Monday 31 August 2026), emergency services responded to reports that a man had been struck by a vehicle on the Princes Highway, near Newtown Road, Bega.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 73-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to South East Regional Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers from South Coast Police District have been told the man was the driver of a blue/green coloured Holden Cruze sedan when he was allegedly involved in an altercation with a female driver of another vehicle.
The man left his car and was walking towards the other vehicle when it allegedly reversed into him. The vehicle then left the scene.
A front-seat passenger in the sedan – a 73-year-old woman – was not injured.
Specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the matter.
