Man injured with corkscrew in Balgowlah Heights

A man has been arrested after an assault with a corkscrew on the Northern Beaches.

About 8.05pm (Friday 17 May 2019) several volunteers were erecting political material outside a school on Lewis Street, Balgowlah Heights.

A man attended and started yelling verbal abuse at the volunteers.

The man then thrust a corkscrew at the stomach of a 31-year-old man, causing a minor injury. He then started ripping down the banners that had been erected, before fleeing the scene.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Ambulance Paramedics attended and treated the injured man on scene. He did not require hospitalisation.

About 10.30pm, a 62-year-old man was arrested at Balgowlah Heights.

He has been taken to Manly Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.
