Man’s hand partially severed in machete attack in Warrawong

A man’s hand has been partially severed after he was attacked with a machete at Warrawong, in the state’s Illawarra region, this morning.

About 4.20am (Tuesday 12 March 2019), a 25-year-old man was in the rear courtyard of a property on Northcliffe Drive, when he was approached by a man wearing dark clothing and carrying a large machete.

Police have been told a confrontation took place, before the armed man struck the 25-year-old in the arm and legs with the machete.

He then left the scene and emergency services were notified.

The injured man was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of a serious hand injury and a cut to the back of his legs.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.

As investigations continue, they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
