Man seriously injured after Point Wilson collision

A man has been airlifted to hospital following a two-car collision in Point Wilson this morning.

Emergency services were called to the outbound lanes of the Princes Freeway, just past the Little River turn-off, after it appears a truck and van collided shortly after 3am.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision however at this early stage it appears a small rigid truck crashed into the rear of a black Mercedes van.

The driver of the truck, a man believed aged in his 60s, had to be cut from the wreckage.

He has been airlifted to a Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries.

The 47-year-old driver of the van was taken to hospital under police guard for treatment to what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The St Albans man, who was found in possession of a quantity of suspected GHB, will be interviewed by police at a later date after it was also found the van was bearing suspected stolen number plates.

All south bound lanes of the Princes Freeway are currently closed while police process the collision scene.
