Man to face court over Salisbury Downs medical centre fire

A police investigation into a fire at a Salisbury Downs medical centre has revealed the fire was deliberately lit.

About 12.15am on Friday 31 July, emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a major medical hub on Salisbury Highway. Passing motorists reported seeing flames inside the building and smoke issuing from the roof.

Due to the intensity of the blaze and the rapid spread of the fire, multiple firefighting appliances and specialist resources responded.

Unfortunately, the building sustained extensive structural damage and will require demolition. Thankfully, there were no reports of injury.

Northern District police commenced an investigation and later obtained CCTV footage which showed the fire had been deliberately lit.

Following the completion of investigations, detectives subsequently reported a 29-year-old man from Salisbury Downs for arson. He is expected to appear in court in November.
