Proactive police work will see a man face court today, the seventh charged after investigations by specialist police into the supply of illegal firearms and prohibited drugs in south-west Sydney.
In September 2018, police from Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad (RES) commenced Strike Force Domes to investigate the illicit supply of firearms and drugs throughout the south-western Sydney area.
Between February and April of this year, officers attached to Wetherill Park RES with assistance from Bass Hill RES executed search warrants in South Hurstville, Bankstown, Bass Hill, Condell Park, and Revesby.
In total, investigators seized 11 firearms, more than 600 rounds of ammunition, more than $600,000 cash, and prohibited drugs with an estimated potential street value of about $14 million.
Six people were charged and are currently before the courts.
As part of their inquiries, police issued an arrest warrant for a 29-year-old man, who was established as having links to the criminal syndicate now before the courts following DNA examination of a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol seized during February search warrants.
About 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 15 May 2019), officers attached to the Police Transport Command South/South West Action Group stopped a Mercedes SUV on Fairford Road, Bankstown, and spoke with the 29-year-old male driver.
He was arrested after checks revealed the outstanding warrant, and he was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where investigators attached to Wetherill Park RES later attended.
The Picnic Point man was charged by virtue of a warrant for the offence of possess unregistered firearm-pistol, and refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Wednesday 16 May 2019).
