Manilla street median gets a makeover

You may have noticed the median in Manilla’s main street is looking especially green after 498 square meters of artificial turf was laid between Court and Market streets.

Tamworth Regional Council Sports and Recreation Manager Paul Kelly said Council invested close to $30,000 to improve the appearance of Manilla Street while also conserving the use of drinking water and reducing ongoing maintenance costs.

“The benefit for the Manilla community is that they will now have an aesthetically pleasing, flat surface in the median after some attempts to get grass to establish there was unsuccessful due to the drought and the high volume of people walking across the median,” he said.

“With the use of synthetic turf, weather conditions will have no impact and last week’s rainfall was perfectly timed to help the new turf settle in.”

The total cost was $29,832 and was funded by the Tamworth Regional Council Sport and Recreation Reserve.

The existing trees in the median were not impacted during the installation of the synthetic turf last week. Over the next few weeks, new mulch will be spread across gardens along the median.
