Marine incident in Moreton Bay, QLD

Police have coordinated a large-scale search and rescue operation in response to a large boat capsizing in Moreton Bay overnight, (December 26).

Shortly before 5.30pm yesterday, police received reports a large boat had overturned just south of Green Island, with 11 people on board.

A search and rescue operation was launched, involving the water police vessels, police divers, Volunteer Marine Rescue and Coast Guard.

Eight people were retrieved from the water and transported to Manly Harbour with non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 6.15pm, officers located one person deceased in the water within the search area.

The two other missing people have not been accounted for.

While responding to the incident, a water police officer sustained contamination from diesel fuel in the water and has been transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The search was suspended just before midnight and will continue at first light.
