Marking Legacy week 2020

Guy Barnett,Minister for Veterans’ Affairs

Ahead of Legacy week 2020 (August 30-5 September), Tasmanians are encouraged to give generously to help care for the families of Veterans who have passed away or are incapacitated.

Legacy has supported countless families across the nation by providing services to families in need after the injury or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their defence force service.

In Tasmania, Legacy Hobart assists 787 widows and widowers and 19 children, and in the North, Launceston Legacy supports 875 widows and widowers and 17 children.

Tasmanians can buy one of Legacy’s iconic badges and wear them with pride as a token of appreciation and support for our service men and women.

This year has thrown up unique challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and I encourage Tasmanians to dig deep where they can and support Legacy.

The Tasmanian Government has supported Legacy through the pandemic with a $10,000 grant to both Hobart and Launceston branches, funded through the Supporting Our Veterans COVID grants program.

These grants have enabled the continued provision of support, care and assistance to our veterans and their families at a time where it has never been more important.
