Marnoo to host state’s best Merinos for Victorian State Merino Field Day
The state’s best Merino breeders will converge on the Northern Grampians Shire this Friday for the Victorian State Merino Field Day, taking place at the Marnoo Events Centre from 10am.
There will be 28 Victorian Merino studs on display from around the state, with over $12,000 in gate prizes and awards on offer, with around 800-1000 people expected to attend.
The event, which will have been running for 30 years in September, has been expanded from a smaller local event into a statewide event, having been brought forward to August to fit in with national shows and sales.
The site for the event has also been given an upgrade with council regrading a 100m x 40m section of ground to prevent water pooling which has been a problem in the past.
The works will allow water to flow away from the area more efficiently, turning the site into a more attractive grassed area for marquees and pens to be constructed for the event.
Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Kevin Erwin said, “It’s a great initiative by the locals to organise this event, and we were more than happy to help out to get it underway.”
“I encourage people to get along to Marnoo on Friday and see some of the best rams the state has to offer, and enjoy the day with everything else that’s happening as well.”
The Victorian State Merino Field Day will also feature a licensed bar and live music from 4pm by Dave Nicholson.
