Impacted residents will have their rubbish collected as a bulk flood waste blitz continues across the city.
Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Les Walker said the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will continue to collect flood waste debris removed from residential properties for the rest of this week.
“A large amount of Townsville City Council and ADF personnel have been out collecting waste from the worst impacted suburbs since Friday – it has been an enormous job,” Cr Walker said.
“The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) have been out assisting residents by clearing accessways and cleaning houses.
“Team Rubicon will coordinate volunteers to assist with waste clean-up and will also have specialised teams working in households hit the hardest by providing extensive cleaning and gutting.
“The recovery process will be a long one, but it is well under-way and it is fantastic to have Council, the Defence Force, QFES, Team Rubicon and many other assisting the community.”
Residents are asked to clearly mark any items they do not wish to have thrown out.
The waste collection is limited to flood affected house contents and does not include any demolition waste.
Council has also organised extra drop-off locations for residents to drop off flood-debris. These are located at:
- Corner of Boundary and Brodie Street at the rear of Office Works
- Murray Sporting Complex, off William Angliss Drive Annandale (soccer field carpark)
