Masterpiece brings wordless wonder and chaos to Regional Art Gallery

With the Griffith Regional Theatre’s 2026 theme being “Out of the Box” – this show really fits the bill. It’s not even at the Theatre – but at the Art Gallery instead!

With no words, one artwork and two clowns, Masterpiece invites audiences into a grand unveiling ceremony at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery on Tuesday 7 July, where the latest, most prestigious artwork is finally due to be revealed. There is just one problem: there is nothing to unveil. Only two arrows mark where the masterpiece should be.

Enter two art handlers, arriving late and blissfully unaware that all eyes are on them. Their task is simple: hang a piece of art. But what should take moments quickly becomes a hilarious, drawn-out battle of persistence, partnership and performance anxiety.

Blending mime, live music and slapstick comedy, Masterpiece offers a unique theatrical experience that is accessible, joyful and refreshingly different. Through movement, presence and humour, the show creates connection without words, while gently poking fun at the art world and the familiar dynamics of working together under pressure.

Griffith Regional Theatre Manager said the show is a wonderful opportunity for audiences to enjoy something light-hearted and unique. “This is an intimate all-ages theatre experience with mime, live music and plenty of silliness, suitable for anyone who likes to laugh.”

In a world often filled with haste and noise, Masterpiece offers a rare moment of simplicity, shared joy and pure comic delight.

Masterpiece will perform at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery, 167 Banna Avenue, on Tuesday 7 July with shows at 4pm and 7pm. The 7pm performance includes a glass of Dee Vine Estate wine for adults. Tickets are very limited for these intimate performances, and are priced at $35 for adults and $20 for children under 18. They are available for purchase through the Theatre Box Office, by calling 6962 8444 or visiting www.griffithregionaltheatre.com.au
