Mayor Cr Liesbeth Long – Maryborough Advertiser

In the last month I’ve had two medical procedures. One was in a flash private hospital in a major regional city, the second one was at Maryborough Hospital. Both were day procedures under anaesthetic and both had great medical outcomes.

If I had to compare the two from a patient care perspective, I would have to say that MDHS won hands down. The staff were absolutely lovely – couldn’t do enough for me to make me feel comfortable – and they knocked patient care out of the park.

The admitting nurse was a lass who married a local lad and now calls Maryborough home. She was thorough and efficient, and made me feel at ease. Now before you say that I perhaps received ‘special care’, I watched her with subsequent patients and everyone was treated as I was.

Waiting for my procedure I couldn’t have wanted for anything. A nice warm blanket, bed adjusted just right, you name it. Once I was wheeled into theatre it was so nice to see my regular GP administer my anaesthetic, something that always scares the ‘bejeesus’ out of me. Post care things were also lovely. My husband received a phone call with lots of time for him to drive in from our farm to come and collect me.

The next day I received a phone call from a MDHS nurse to ‘check up on how I went post op’. It wasn’t just a super-fast, tick the box call. Nope, we spoke for quite a while, and didn’t disconnect until the nurse was absolutely certain I was A-OK.

We are so blessed to have this great facility in town and with the new hospital build now well underway, I am looking forward to what the future holds for medical care in our great shire.
