Mayor reveals support package initiative

Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray has today announced Council is working on a package of measures designed to provide financial relief to local business and residents.

Cr Murray has called for an Extraordinary Meeting of Tamworth Regional Council to be held at the end of this week or early next week where Councillors will consider options to support business and impacted residents.

“We can all see the wide ranging impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having,” Cr Murray said this morning. “But it is not only a serious health risk to our community, it is also devastating our economy.

“I will be putting forward a Mayoral Minute which will detail Council’s proposed support package.”

Cr Murray said Council is taking this initiative following representation from business and residents.

“Staff have already been working to identify ways in which Council can give support and will includes ideas such as providing fee-free services and pressing pause on any new debt recovery action,” he said.

“We must all work together to get through these challenging times. I am confident Council can find ways we can help make a difference to those businesses and residents hurting from the financial fallout of this pandemic.”
