Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald has sent the well wishes of the region to the South West Thunder Football Queensland Premier League 1 women’s team ahead of their Grand Final appearance this Sunday 17 September at Suncorp Stadium.
Mayor McDonald said 2023 had been a momentous year for women’s soccer in Australia and the South West Queensland Thunder had a great chance to create history.
“I wish the SWQ Thunder all the very best on their Grand Final appearance at Suncorp Stadium this Sunday against Brisbane City.
“With the amazing women’s soccer world cup that we’ve just witnessed here in Australia, the SWQ Thunder now have their own opportunity to create history.
“It is fantastic to see yet another sporting team from this region represent us on the big stage and I’m sure many supporters from Toowoomba and across the Darling Downs will make the trip to Suncorp on Sunday.
“This team’s massive 5-0 win over Broadbeach in their semi-final gives me every confidence they can get the job done against Brisbane City,” Mayor McDonald said.
