Mayoral ride through wonders of Hobsons Bay

Mayoral bike ride

Join Mayor of Hobson Bay Councillor Jonathon Marsden and Council’s Conservation Rangers on a bike ride to showcase the internationally significant natural wonders on our doorstep, including the Altona Coastal Park on Sunday 2 June.

Cr Marsden said the ride is part of Council’s World Environment Day festival in the Logan Reserve and Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre precinct.

“The World Environment Day festival is shaping up to be a wonderful day with inspirational speakers, workshops, stalls and plenty of fun for the whole family,” Cr Marsden said.

“To complement the day, I am proud to host my second bike ride as part of my Mayoral Program, this time taking in the beautiful Altona coastline all the way to the coastal park.

“I’ll have Council’s Conservation Rangers with me who will be able to explain the flora that inhabits the coastal park, as well as talk about our latest addition – the mangroves growing in specially designed pods along the Altona coastline.”

The Mayor said participants on the bike ride can take advantage of the free bike maintenance station in the car park of the Altona Senior Citizens Centre between 1.30pm and 4pm, as part of the festival, before heading off on the 5km round trip.

“The ride will be perfect for the whole family as the terrain will be flat and mostly paved,” said Cr Marsden.

“We’ll be stopping along the way to take part in the annual Witness King Tides citizen photography project – a great initiative that helps us visualise the potential future impacts of sea level rise.

“It’s going to be a great day that celebrates our local environment and will hopefully inspire our community to not only want to protect it, but also get out and explore it.”
