Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have released images of a vehicle similar to the one involved in a fatal crash in Beaumaris on Tuesday morning, and are appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle around the time of the crash to come forward.
Emergency services were called, after a white Volkswagen sedan crashed onto the Bay Trail from Beach Road about 12.30am.
The driver, a 23-year-old Carrum Downs man, was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.
One of his passengers, a 38-year-old Blind Bight man, died at the scene.
The other passenger, a 45-year-old Carrum Downs man, was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
Detectives have released images of a white 2013 VW Up! similar to the one involved in the crash.
Investigators urge anyone who was driving along Chesterville Road, Moorabbin about 12.15am in addition to Charman Road and Beach Road, Beaumaris from about 12.15pm until the time of the collision to check their dashcam.
