Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision in Red Hill last night.
Detectives believe the two cars were travelling in opposite directions on Arthurs Seat Road when the head on collision occurred, on Tuesday 5 December, about 5pm.
The male passenger of the Toyota Yaris involved, who is believed aged in his early 20s, sadly died at the scene.
The 23-year-old male driver of the same vehicle has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition and is under police guard.
The 44-year-old male driver and only occupant of the other car, a Toyota Landcruiser, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police cordoned off the area and detectives from MCIU are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
