Melbourne police intercept car and seize significant quantity of cash

Uniformed officers working the divisional van Sunday morning seized a significant quantity of cash after spotting a driver using their mobile phone in the CBD.

The eagle-eyed constables intercepted the car on Swanston Street on Sunday 5 December, after noticing the man driving and using his phone on Lonsdale Street, about 9am.

The driver of the car, who appeared substance affected, was also found to be a disqualified driver.

A subsequent search of the 43-year-old’s car uncovered in excess of $26,000 cash, liquid believed to be 1, 4 Butanediol (GHB), drug paraphernalia, a quantity of alleged prescription drugs and a number of documents believed stolen.

The Sunshine man was arrested and has been charged with traffick and possess a drug of dependence, possess proceeds of crime, the commonwealth offence of make or produce fake document and traffic related offences.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today
